Description
This study examines the impact of digitalization on the industry architecture through the lens of layered modular architecture. Recent changes in the industrial landscape in several industries have shown how digitalization changes the industry radically and swiftly. Despite the importance of the topic, there have been little systematic studies on the impact of digitalization on the industry architecture. We conducted a case study focusing on the digitalization of South Korean television media industry to understand the impacts of digitalization on the industry architecture. We used financial data to trace the industry architecture change following the industry architecture concept who does what and who gets what. Our research contributes to digital innovation literature by expanding the layered modular architecture framework to the industry level and presenting that the emergence of a new configuration between layers does not necessarily replace the existing one in the context of the television media industry.
