Abstract

Many managerial decisions involve consideration of more than a single criterion. Despite the development of multicriteria decision models (MCI)M), decision support systems (DSS), and group decision support systems (GDSS), there is inadequate success in supporting multicriteria decision making. This study explores the possibility of embedding decision guidance within MCDM GDSS. We outline guidelines for the design of decision guidance and demonstrate the benefits of guidance within the context of a resourceallocation task. The findings suggest that the addition of guidance may improve the effectiveness of decision support systems.
