Abstract
Object-centric process mining (OCPM) is a paradigm that moves beyond traditional case-centric analysis. Instead of focusing on a single object, OCPM provides a more holistic and realistic view of complex processes by analysing the interactions between multiple interconnected objects. However, after a long period of establishing case-centric process mining, the industry is only beginning to adopt this new paradigm. The opportunities and challenges that arise when moving to OCPM are not yet clear. Therefore, we conducted interviews with 13 industry experts, identifying seven opportunities and nine challenges. The opportunities and challenges are mainly seen in the object-centric data model and the usability of OCPM. Regarding use cases, improvements are expected, but the realisation of these improvements in industry remains an open question. For future work, we propose research directions to overcome technical limitations and empirical research to better understand the specific needs regarding OCPM and its impact on industry.
