Abstract

The panel addresses the emerging perspective, movement and potential field of Digital Humanism. Digital humanism rejects technology determinism and mainly argues for human-centered approaches to digital transformation and the design, development, implementation and use of digital technology. The panel provides an IS perspective to examine whether digital humanism is a new label for the sociotechnical perspective, revival and expansion of it or just a new school of thought. Commonalities and differences between digital humanism and the different sociotechnical approaches will be discussed and whether digital humanism call for newer approaches. The panel will examine how IS researchers can engage and contribute to the potential development of digital humanism. Through argumentation and active audience participation, the panel will uncover whether IS research should ignore, adopt or adapt its focus, purpose and approaches to formulate a digital humanism agenda.
