Abstract
This paper explores the impact of AI-assisted software development on innovation among software developers, focusing on how increased job demands arising from the integration of AI coding tools can suppress innovative work behavior unless adequate compensating resources are provided. By examining the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) framework, the study analyzes how ad hoc adoption of AI tools introduces new coordination and velocity demands, which may negatively affect perceptions of fairness and innovation if not offset by resources such as proper training and effective system integration. The paper highlights the importance of aligning new demands with appropriate resources to maintain innovative behavior and perceived effort-reward fairness, offering theoretical insights for researchers and practical guidance for managers to enhance organizational outcomes in the evolving landscape of AI-driven software development.
