Abstract
This study examines the relationship between remote work and Information Systems Security Policy (ISSP) compliance through the mediating roles of cognitive load and cyberslacking. We draw on Cognitive Load Theory to investigate how the mental demands of remote work environments influence employees’ security compliance intentions and behaviors. We also consider cyberslacking, the use of work internet and devices for personal activities during work hours, as both a consequence of cognitive overload and a contributor to non-compliance. Using a survey based approach targeting remote workers, data will be analyzed using PLS SEM to test the research model. This study extends ISSP compliance literature by integrating cognitive factors often overlooked in security research. The findings will inform the design of security policies and training programs that account for cognitive demands in remote work. Understanding these mechanisms is critical for organizations seeking sustainable compliance behaviors as remote work continues to expand.
