Abstract

This paper demonstrates that a set of axioms seems as practical or more practical than a set of widely cited theories when applied to three case studies by three LLMs. It summarizes past discussions about the definition and importance of theory. It notes that axioms are extremely scarce in the IS literature. It summarizes how and why a set of work system axioms was developed. It identifies 24 axioms and related questions for description and analysis of work systems. Three leading LLMs identify ten IS theories that seem most practical in providing guidance for managers. The same LLMs apply those theories and axioms to three synthetic case studies. The results show that the set of axioms seems as practical or possibly more practical than a group of widely cited IS theories.
