Abstract
This study investigates how healthcare professionals develop and utilize capabilities for Business Intelligence and Analytics (BI&A) design and use. While prior research has examined BI&A assimilation from organizational and IT department perspectives, less is known about the specific capabilities needed by end users to effectively participate in both design and use of these tools. Drawing on Service-Dominant Logic, Structuration Theory, and the concept of operant resources, this research explores how end users develop capabilities important for both the design and use of these tools in a healthcare setting. Using a qualitative approach with interviews and focus groups across North American and European healthcare organizations, the findings will contribute to both theory and practice by developing a conceptual framework of end user capabilities in BI&A assimilation, while providing insights for healthcare organizations implementing analytics solutions.
