Abstract

The management accounting sub-processes planning, budgeting and forecasting offer great potential for digitalization, although the level of implementation has been low to date. In this paper, a systematic literature analysis was conducted on the implementation status of digitalization in these sub-processes, with over 4,600 hits from databases being filtered in a structured manner, resulting in 96 potentially relevant titles. 8 were then analyzed for this ERF paper. It can be seen that big data and advanced analytics have already found acceptance in the practice of planning and budgeting. Especially in forecasting, big data and predictive analytics can already be found. Nevertheless, when viewed in aggregate, the level of implementation of digital technologies in planning, budgeting and forecasting is low.
