Description
This paper presents a bibliometrics analysis of four decades of ACM scholarship, aiming to explore research interests in studying the IT profession. The analysis uses the citation index from the OpenAlex database and the Louvain community detection algorithm to form publication clusters and identify research areas within them. Seven topics of interest were identified from the 367 articles retrieved: IT job skills and education, IT turnover, IT career, underrepresentation of minorities in IT, IT profession scholarship, ethics in the IT profession, and IT service quality. Among these, the topics of IT job skills and education, and IT turnover have received the most attention. The study contributes to a better understanding of changes in the IT profession and identifies gaps for future research.
