Best Practices for Mitigating Academic Dishonesty in Information Systems Programs: One Department’s Experience with a Needs-Based Perspective
SIG ED
Description
Academic dishonesty is a major problem in higher education, especially for online learning and in information systems programs. This emergent research forum paper describes one information systems department’s efforts to brainstorm and share knowledge around academic dishonesty observed in the classroom. Here, we share instructors’ views of why students cheat, informed by a Self-Determination Theory lens, to develop theory-driven responses at both a tactical and strategic level to reduce incidences of academic dishonesty. We describe future research that can be driven by this effort.
