Abstract

This study aims to present a theoretical essay of Information Technology Governance, through an interdisciplinary point of view and the principles of Complexity Theory. Based on the assumption that market practices in ITG advocate for a linear and evolving attitude, where feedbacks always act in a positive way for the development of the system, but that this is an approach far from the dynamic reality that organizations operate. We have discussed the ITG practices should act in balancing the internal and external influences and direct the management activities on the IT/IS artifact in its technical, social and information subsystems. The objective of the ITG should be understood by the organization as a mechanism for adding value to business through ICTs and may influence innovative practices with the possibility of disturbing the external environment. Disturbances in the external environment is understood as the fact that competitors are pressured to a mimetic isomorphism facing IT practices that provide competitive advantage to the adopter.
