Perspiration + Inspiration = Publication

Description

Inventor Thomas Edison famously stated that “genius is one percent inspiration and ninety nine percent perspiration” (quoted in Harper’s Monthly, September 1932). There is much to be learned from the experiences of “geniuses” who produce highly influential publications. While many conferences offer Meet the Editors sessions for participants to learn about journals’ vision, priorities, norms and practices, we believe AMCIS participants can also greatly benefit from hearing from award-winning authors. In order to establish the context of their work, each author will talk a little about the research that led to an award-winning paper, but devote more time to reflecting on the triggers, processes and practices that led to that publication. Edison also was quoted as saying that “many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” We hope this panel will inspire attendees to persist, perspire, and publish.
