Abstract

Studies related to IT infrastructure emphasize its changing and differing roles, functions and forms. This study reviews the literature related to IT infrastructure and combines its different elements into one holistic model. The model is further elaborated by using the concepts of structure, properties and processes. The model will help academics to find essential information about IT infrastructure and help practitioners to understand its importance and the possibilities related to leveraging it. After detailed analysis of the model, the study suggests that though topical literature presents a widely held common understanding of the elements existing within IT infrastructure, more research is needed to develop and unify definitions of old and new concepts related to theproperties and processes of IT infrastructure.
