Description

Allen Davis, a newly minted MBA, now manages a 100,000 square foot facility for a large metro area food bank. The warehouse, a second one for a Texas Food Bank, opened in October, 2011. Within six months of hectic activity, the warehouse was filled with helter-skelter storage of food and non-food goods, some of which dated to its opening. Perishable food often went unnoticed and rotting, with several pallets of potatoes, onions, and similar vegetables discarded. Allen has leeway given by his boss to do whatever he thought would work well in the Food Bank environment with a budget of $5,000. The priorities for projects are: • Improve information flows and apps that support the warehouse • Increase information accuracy, especially in-out weights • Apply first-in-first-out (FIFO) movement to all inventories (physical and digital) • Provide an at-a-glance summary of warehouse status via a drill-down dashboard.
