Description

Chronic disease registries play a pivotal role in the use of information technology within the health sector. In the early 90’s, diabetes registry has had limited functionality and lack sharing of information among healthcare providers’ in both small and large hospitals. Most diabetes registries were used for recording of diabetic patients. Over the last decade, the features of diabetes registry have improved to include aiding in clinical research and data sharing, updating of patient medical processes, and feedback mechanism on patient health condition. However, with the increased adoption of diabetes registry, there is lack of a framework for the design, deployment, and evaluation of a diabetes registry. The objectives of this research are to analyze: (1) the role of diabetes registry within the electronic healthcare record (EHR) era, (2) The features, design, and implementation of diabetes registry. The study will adopt design science methodology. The research will advance a better understating of strength and weakens of diabetes registry.
