Abstract

Data modeling is an important component of Information Systems, and has traditionally been an important component of MIS teaching as well as, to a lesser extent, MIS research. While traditional data modeling in the form of the ER model, NIAM and now UML is taught extensively in MIS curricula, there have been recent trends in data modeling research in areas such as spatio-temporal modeling, extensions to SQL, data modeling with a view towards organizational data integration, and so on. This panel will gather researchers involved in state-of-the-art data model development and research, to discuss recent advances, and a prognosis for the future.
